Some Eastside Residents don't want the CDOT building to become a Homeless Shelter. They'd rather the 900 Homeless Kids sleep in a nice ditch off a potholed-street during this Homeless/Crazy/Heroin Addict Crisis. "Soon after word leaked out that the vacant Colorado Department of Transportation campus in the 900 block of Erie Avenue was one of the sites being eyed as a potential new home for the Pueblo Rescue Mission, a groundswell of dissent began to swirl. The overriding concern, voiced primarily by parents of children who attend Fountain International Magnet School and some East Side residents, is the proposed shelter’s one-block proximity to that Pueblo City School (D60) elementary institution." https://www.chieftain.com/news/pueblo/pueblo-east-side-parents-residents-no-homeless-shelter-by-our/article_8d654c20-fd44-5447-a0a6-ddf1a6a21ddb.html "Lori Winner, a mayoral candidate, was vocally critical of the city’s willingness to become involved in the homeless business. “They need to figure out where that money is going to come from, because it’s not going to come from grants,” Winner said. “Those grants are already taken up with agencies like Posada, Catholic Charities and Salvation Army.” Winner also contends that the willingness to tolerate homeless “urban campers” in areas near the river bottom, as an example, is a case of “white privilege,” albeit on a low level. “I think there’s a different attitude, especially among white men, that think it’s OK for these guys to camp,” she said. “I just think if there were 70 African-Americans down there, I don’t think it would happen.”

"Chostner's office dropped all charges last month after the Governor signed House Bill 1234 into law. The legislation reclassifies the games as slot machines. Lawmakers added a provision granting immunity to business owners like Olguin provided they give documentation to the District Attorney showing that they have sold the equipment out of state." http://www.koaa.com/story/38770913/gambling-charges-dropped-against-pueblo-arcade-owner

"If Colorado regulators approve, it would mean two out of the three smokestacks that define Pueblo’s skyline would go away. The proposed change makes Comanche Power Plant workers like Dave McKenzie nervous. He’s been at Xcel’s largest coal-fired power plant in the state for 15 years." “We’re very well paid for what we do. But we work in a dangerous situation,” said the third generation Puebloan. Here’s the rub: Comanche employees can earn up to $100,000 a year. That’s a big deal in a town where the average salary is about $20,000 less compared to the rest of the state. There are 80 jobs on the line and by 2025, workers will either retire or be placed in ne..." https://www.cpr.org/news/story/coal-fired-past-or-green-powered-future-pueblo-looks-for-a-new-economic-leg-up
